Margot Robbie Auditioned For AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ASYLUM But Was Out Of The Realm Of Hiring

Before Margot Robbiehe had a great starring role Martin Scorsese’S The Wolf of Wall Streetauditioned for American Horror Story: Asylum, the second season of the popular horror anthology series. It’s kind of weird that she wasn’t cast in the series, it seems like it would be a no-brainer to cast someone like Robbie, who was on the verge of stardom.

Casting director Eric Dawson recently talked about Robbie auditioning for the FX series in 2012 during an interview with Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast. She said:

“Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors. That’s the hard thing for casting directors who aren’t in the room [anymore] with the actors. Margot is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time, and it happened right before it blew up. She was a real star. She was crazy, her star-like charm when she walked into the room.

So why didn’t they cast her for the series? Apparently, she was out of their “realm of hiring possibilities.” Dawson explained:

“Even though she didn’t get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director: This is a star, what do we do with her? Immediately, however, she was out of our employ. But that’s really the fun part of casting, it’s seeing people whose careers are on the rise.”

It seems they didn’t cast her because she landed the role of the Wolf of Wall Street and her career exploded from there. It would have been interesting to see what Robbie’s career would have looked like if she had been cast in American Horror Story: Asylum instead of The Wolf of Wall Street.
