David Harbor teases a great script for THUNDERBOLTS and the dynamic relationship between Red Guardian and Yelena

Actor David Port (Stranger things) will return as the Red Guardian in the upcoming film, Lightning. He debuted the Marvel character in the MCU Black Widow, where we met a young Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and her undercover family, with Harbor playing her father Alexei, aka the Red Guardian superhero. In the new film he will be joined by his other one-time daughter, Yelena Belova, played by the returning actress. Florence Pug.

While talking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via CB) about his upcoming film, Gran TurismoHarbor teased an emotional relationship with Yelena Belova, and also praised Marvel Studios for taking the time to make the Thunderbolts, saying:

“I mean, I think we would have gone and then I think they wanted the opportunity to change some things. The interesting thing about Marvel, which is so great about them, is that they rework stuff, even big productions. Like Black Widow, the whole third was reworked while we were shooting which is amazing and so they just want that freedom The script that we have is really tight and really great and our director Jake [Schreier] he thinks its great but they just want freedom. They don’t want to get stuck in the middle of a take and then have to move forward as you know, we can’t rewrite that.”

Harbor continued:

“I’ve already started working on it and it’s phenomenal. Again, it’s hard to do these projects because I look like such a stupid idiot, so all I’m saying is it’s a great script. But it’s true. I’m lucky to work with the Duffers, who write some of the greatest scripts for television and this, you know, these Marvel writers are writing amazing epic stories and letting the Red Guardian do things he’s never done before. That relationship with Yelena, we need to go into this more , and it’s fun and satisfying in a really exciting way. Yeah, I’m really lucky with these two amazing projects that aren’t getting shot.”

The film also stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as a US agent, Hannah John Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko in the role of Taskmaster, Harrison Fordwho assumes the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will become president of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri he also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

We don’t know much about what the Thunderbolts story will entail, but we recently learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feigeand shared that Bucky Barnes will lead the team in the film.

Thunderbolts is scheduled to premiere on July 26, 2023. Production of Thunderbolts has been halted due to strikes.
