Studio Ponoc in Japan has released a new trailer for its upcoming fantasy adventure anime film, The imaginary. This is the studio’s second feature film after its release Maria and the flower of the witch. The new film appears to be telling a wildly imaginative and visually fantastic story.
The film centers on an imaginary friend, who must return to his creator before he is forgotten or captured by an evil man who can see imaginary friends. The question is asked, “Can a missing boy survive without a friend to invent him?”
In the film: “Born from the imagination of a little girl, Rudger (Kokoro Terada) is a boy that no one can see and who lives in a world where imagination can live and be eaten by others. The Imaginary is a uniquely touching and beautiful hand-drawn fantasy film in which Rudger and his new friends in The Town of The Imaginaries embark on an adventure that no one can see at the risk of the future and the fate of those they love.
The film was directed by an acclaimed Japanese animator/director Voice of Yoshiyuki Momoseand also includes the voice cast Rio Suzuki, Sakura Ando, Riisa Naka, Takayuki Yamada, Atsuko TakahataAND Issey Ogata.
The film is an adaptation of the book written by AF Harrold and Emily Gravett. It will be released first in Japan starting December 15, 2023 and in theaters worldwide in early 2024.
