As you know, Marvel Studios and McDonald’s have teamed up for Loki Season 2, and it was recently revealed that the variant Loki Sylvie (Sophie DiMartino), is working at the fast food chain. We’ve seen some footage of this, but we don’t really know what the problem is. But according to producer Kevin Wright, that’s actually a significant part of the show’s narrative.
During an interview with Fast Company, the producer explained that bringing McDonald’s into the storyline provides a unique perspective on Sylvie, who is a character driven by anger and vengeance. Now, working at McDonald’s, the character will only enjoy the small and ordinary things in life. Wright said:
“This character has been on a mission of revenge for decades, maybe centuries, and the classic trope of those stories is that it’s all-consuming, and she’s not thinking about what comes next. You now you have this moment of opportunity, where will you go? When we stayed in the character view, this woman who had run away as a child, had run through time, escaping time, living in apocalypses, never being able to relax or slow down, the novelty of walking into an 80s McDonald’s seemed appealing.
Wright went on to say that they were trying to tell a deep story that established the character’s desire for regular happiness. She added:
“I was worried that McDonald’s would think we were doing something ironic or making fun of them. But we were selling a serious story, a love letter to nostalgia through the eyes of a character who will see all its novelty and joy.”
In Season 2, the god of mischief finds himself with a little “time slipping” problem. The trailer is also present Ke Huy Quan like an archivist they turn to for help. Owen Wilson returns as Mobius, and will continue to help Loki as they try to figure out that the clock is ticking down and this leads them to Jonathan Major such as the Kang Victor Timely variant.
The cast also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Raffaele Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil ElliceAND Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, of which we see a variant in the trailer.
The series was directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moore, Dan Deleuw AND Kasra Farahani. The main writer of the show is Eric Martin and is produced by Kevin Feige, Stephen Brussard, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin R. WrightHiddleston, Benson, Moorhead, Martin e Michael Waldron.
Marvel Studios’ Loki Season 2 begins streaming October 6, exclusively on Disney+.
