Here are some great behind-the-scenes video footage from the set of the 1968 sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes. This is a home video shot of the late Roddy McDowall, who wanted to document portions of the three-hour process where makeup artist Don Cash applied the makeup that transformed him into the Cornelius character in the film.
We see videos like this all the time these days in featurettes and social media posts. But in the 60s, most people couldn’t see stuff like that, so it’s great that some of these actors and directors documented things themselves, and we get to enjoy all these years later.
