When Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse was released on Digital for home viewing, many fans were confused with some of the changes made. It was different from the movie version that many fans saw in theaters.
During a recent interview with GamesRadar, the makers Phil Lord AND Chris Miller explain why the film’s home release features all those minor changes. Here is Miller’s explanation:
“There was an international version that was made almost two months before the film’s release because it had to be translated into several languages and these French censors have to decide what the film’s rating is in Europe.”
“The team of [Sony Pictures] Imageworks still had a few shots they felt they could do better for the final version. So, they cleaned up and tweaked those things.”
Miller also revealed that the film crew helped with additional ideas to help make a final cut that people will “regard forever.” He explained:
“Some of the crew — people in the audio department or the animation team — were like, ‘Oh, could we do this instead?’ We make the best version we can. Because it’s a multiverse movie, it’s like there’s a multiverse of the movie — that was really the reasoning behind it. He was trying to make the best possible version that everyone would be the most proud of.”
Lord added, “I think most of the changes are improvements.” So that’s it! They just wanted to make a final cut of the film, and the home release of the film is that cut.
