Today I have a very cool trailer for you to watch for a quirky indie film titled Hundreds of beavers. The movie has a very Looney Tunes tone to it, but it’s shot in live-action. The movie looks ridiculous, but I like the atmosphere!
The film comes from the director Mike Cheslik, and the film “captures the bizarre, anarchic energy by featuring a new gag every few seconds. It has a lot of one-off elements, but equally builds momentum with slower buildups and recalls that keep the experience fresh and surprising. A man versus nature narrative about overcoming the cruel and unforgiving landscape of a Northeastern winter, Hundreds of Beavers is a dazzling and dynamic theatrical experience.”
The description of the film reads: “Paying homage to silent cinema and comics, Mike Cheslik’s first feature film Hundreds of Beavers opens with an epic animated sequence introducing us to our trusty hero, a drunk applejack salesman whose supply of Applejack Cider is ruined due to the work of some hungry beavers. To recover her fortune, she must become the greatest fur trapper the continent has ever seen by defeating hundreds of beavers. Hundreds of Beavers is a dialogue-free heroic epic which is infinitely inventive, embracing the innovative spirit of cinema’s early decades by using animation to re-imagine the laws of nature in creative and compelling ways.”
As you’ll see, this is going to be a wild and weird movie, and I can’t wait to see it! The film initially premiered at the 2023 Fantasia Film Festival. Raven Banner will make her Hundreds of Beavers debut sometime later in 2023.
