TMNT: MUTANT MAYHEM The creatives didn’t want the animators to be overworked and exhausted

Over the last few months we’ve heard stories of how the working conditions in VFX houses and animation studios have been brutal. We heard it with how Marvel Studios and Disney are hurting the system, and then there was that scathing report about how it was a nightmare for the animators working on Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse.

Well, when it came to Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos, a plan has been implemented for entertainers to have a good work-life balance. The creatives didn’t want the animators to be overworked and exhausted, which other studios seem to ignore.

Director Jeff Row and producer Seth Rogen he wanted to do things differently and make sure the animators could do their best. During a recent interview with Variety, Rowe talked about how they came to set up the production that way, saying:

“That was the really important thing to us on this movie, and I learned that from Seth and Evan because knowing Seth, I was like, ‘He’s got a really good work-life balance and everyone at Point Gray does,’ and I asked him about this and he said, ‘Well, when you do live action, sometimes you’re on a set for 40 days straight and it’s exhausting and tiring. And we want to make sure our people have time away from it. all of that and it doesn’t become their whole life.’

Rowe went on to say, “I really took that to heart and wanted to make sure that when we made this film, we were doing it ethically.” He even came out and got feedback from the film’s animation team on what would make them more comfortable while working on the project. He explained that some of them wanted to work “three days a week” and others asked to work remotely.

“We’d be like, ‘Great, let’s figure it out and adapt it because that’s your process and that’s what drives you to make your best art,’ and we’d often do that with the majority of the team and just try to make sure everyone is always there.” feel supported. I never want the team to suffer more than me. And I also hope I suffer more than the team because I’m the captain and I’m paid to absorb this, and they don’t. It’s important to preserve that. People work best when they’re rested and have a family life”.

I love that Rogen and Rowe have found a way to make this animation production the best possible experience for the animators working on it. This is a nice change of pace from all the horror stories we’ve heard.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos is currently in theaters and is having a good box office!
