A few new details about the awesome new look have been shared Star Wars video game Star Wars: Outlaws. The game is set between the events of The empire strikes again AND Return of the Jediand it is explained that the setting allows for maximum outlaw opportunities.
Matthew Martin, a Star Wars game development executive and member of the Lucasfilm Story Group, explains that the gap between the two films is the best place to tell the story of Kay Vess, the rookie scoundrel who is the main character of the series. She explained at Comic-Con:
“The Empire, which basically represents the law, is so focused on the Rebellion, that it really is a perfect opportunity for the underworld and crime syndicates [to] take their side because the law is distracted.
Steve Blank, director of content and franchise strategy at Lucasfilm, said that because the Empire is busy diverting its resources and attention to fighting a civil war, it “creates a galaxy-wide environment for outlaws to thrive in.” Martin also reveals that Outlaws will include unions “from both existing lore and ones newly created for the game.”
In a behind the scenes video of the game some concept art was shown for some of the hubs of the galaxy where different syndicates reside. World and Art Director Benedikt Podlesnigg also confirmed that the game will also include Tattooine because, of course, Tattooine will be in the game. Footage was then shown revealing Toshara, which is a new location created for Outlaws.
Star Wars: Outlaws is billed as the first open-world Star Wars game, and players will be able to explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. The story centers on a female character named Kay Vess, voiced by Humberly Gonzalez. Kay Vess is “an up-and-coming scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, alongside his partner Nix. You fight, steal and outwit the criminal syndicates of the galaxy as you join the most wanted in the galaxy.
Looks like this game is going to be a blast! Star Wars: Outlaws will be released in 2024!
