It seems Eli Rot’S Borderlands the film is in bad condition. The director wrapped up production on the film in June of 2021 and there were rewrites and reshoots during that time. Well, whatever movie is turning out, The Last of Us co-writer and co-creator Craig Mazin he does not want his name attached to it.
You can see on the Writer’s Guild website that current accredited writers on the Borderlands movies are Eli Roth and Joe Crombie, which is a pseudonym for Craig Mazin. This is a common practice in Hollywood for filmmakers who don’t want their name attached to a film project because they are embarrassed by it.
Mazin was the film’s original co-writer and since then there has been a revolving door of writers working on the project. World of Reel reveals that some of those writers have been Aaron Berg, Oren Uziel, Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Chris Bremner, Gary Ross, Zak OlkewiczAND The idol Creator Sam Levisson.
It was revealed several months ago Dead Pool director Tim Miller he replaced Roth as director for a two-week shoot. It was initially explained that the reason for this is that Roth reportedly couldn’t fit time into his schedule, because he’s making his own horror movie, Thanksgiving.
So, it’s daunting to listen to. The story of the film follows Lilith, a notorious outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her homeworld of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find Atlas’ missing daughter.
The film is the protagonist Cate Blanchett like Lilit, Jamie Lee Curtis like Tannis, Kevin Hart like Roland, Black Jackthe character of Clatrap, Ariana Greenblatt such as Tiny Tina, e Florian Munteanu like Krieg. They will be joined by Gina Gerson like Moxxi, Edgard Ramirez, Janina Gavankar, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryan RedmondAND Haley Bennett.
The synopsis for the film reads: “Lilith (Blanchett), a notorious outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful SOB, Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team: Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a savage pre-teen wrecker; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s brawny and rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wise robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands.
Last year I saw some footage from the movie and what I saw looked great. But after reading this recent update, it looks like the movie’s story is going to be a complete mess. I hope it’s good, but if Mazin doesn’t want his name attached, that’s pretty terrible.
