Neil Gaiman says he already has a story mapped out for the third season of GOOD OMENS

While we continue to wait Good omens Season 2 premiering on Prime Video, Neil Gaiman revealed that he has already plotted the story for season 3. He was able to do this thanks to the work he did with his deceased collaborator Terry Pratchett.

The first season of Good omens it was originally slated as a limited series because there was only one book to adapt. But, as the series became a smash hit, Prime Video greenlit a second season, and Gaiman came on board to bring it to life.

In a recent interview with SFX magazine, Gaiman said he never intended the second season’s story arc to be the second episode. He and Pratchett had been working on a sequel to the fantasy comedy, but the next season we’re waiting to see isn’t the story they made up. Instead, Gaiman concocted a different story that could serve as a tie-in between Seasons 1 and 3, should that happen. Season 3 would tell the story of the sequel he and Pratchett came up with. Gaiman explained:

“Because the hypothetical third season exists, there’s a story that’s there, and I didn’t feel like we could go straight from season one to that. I knew what was at stake. I knew what the parameters were. I also knew that I had David [Tennant] and Michael [Sheen]. I had number one plot angels. I had the demons from plot number one. And with everyone I wanted to bring back, but didn’t have room for right now, I didn’t have to bring them back as myself.”

Well, I haven’t seen season 2 yet, but I’m already hoping we’ll get to see season 3!

This series follows the story of Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), “an angel, and Crowley (David Tennan), a demon, who formed an unlikely friendship that lasted 6,000 years and grew fond of life on earth. However, the end times are approaching as Armageddon approaches and now they must join forces to find a way to save the world.”

The new six-episode season “will explore storylines that go beyond the source material to illuminate the mysterious friendship between Aziraphale, a demanding angel and rare book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley. Having been on Earth since the beginning and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are making it easy again to live among mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a startling mystery.

In the story, “Aziraphale and Crowley are returning to normal, living in London among mortals, when a new angel, Muriel, unexpectedly shows up on their doorstep. The angel (and the new angel) and the demon will have to solve a mystery before they can return to their home lives together.

Good omens The second season will arrive on Prime Video on July 28, 2023.
