Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hit theaters this weekend and many fans enjoyed this latest Indiana Jones adventure Harrison Ford. The latter story revolves around an ancient artifact called the Dial of Destiny, also known as the Archimedes Dial or the Antikythera Mechanism.
Well, there’s a real story behind the Archimedean Quadrant and the video below from Star Wars Explained takes a deep dive into the fascinating real story behind it.
The Antikythera Mechanism is a hand-operated planetarium from ancient Greece, described as the oldest known example of an analog computer used to predict astronomical locations and eclipses decades in advance. It was also used to trace the four-year cycle of athletic games that were similar to an Olympiad, the cycle of the ancient Olympic Games. This artifact was among the wrecks recovered from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera in 1901.
