We have an interesting short documentary for you to check out today called The true story of the Turkish Avengerswhich dives into the history of the Turkish cult film, 3 Dev Adams. The 1973 film was the very first superhero film to have multiple superhero films in what we now know as a crossover.
This mini-documentary comes from film historian Ed Glaser, as part of his ‘Deja View’ series, and focuses on 3 Dev Adam, also known as ‘3 Giant Men’ or ‘Captain America & Santo vs. Spider-Man’ . As Glaser explains in his video, films starring costumed heroes were all the rage in Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s, which was aided by lax copyright protections for foreign works. In an attempt to get into this, director T. Fikret Uçak decided to bring together multiple heroes in one film for the audience to see. Captain America is played by Aytekin Akkaya, Spider-Man is played by Tevfik Şen, and El Santo is Turkish movie star Yavuz Selekman, a real-life masked luchador named Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta.
This is a fun and interesting little watch. Check out the document below and enjoy.
