James Wan highlights why ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ is worth watching – Warner Bros. Discovery (Warner Bros.)
The future of the DC Cinematic Universe is in an uncertain state after ‘The Flash’ disappointing performance at the box office. This film, which was supposed to mark a reboot for the superhero franchise, has cast a shadow on the upcoming DC releases, including “Blue Beetle” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”. It is the latter who is in danger of being left behind, as he belongs to the previous era of Zack Snyder’s DCEU.
Despite rumors that ‘Aquaman 2’ could be another flop for DC, the director James Wan says Arthur Curry’s new adventure is worth watching on the big screen. In a recent interview with Comic Book, Wan answered the question of why we should watch “Aquaman 2”:
Well, Aquaman, even the first film, has always been very independent. That’s been our goal from the start: for you to live in your own world, and that’s exactly what we did with ‘The Lost Kingdom’. People love Jason Momoa playing this role, he loves the action scenes in this underwater world,” Wan said.
We are taking everything to the next level, expanding even more. If you’re a fan of Aquaman and Black Manta, this is what you’ve been waiting for and I’m thrilled to finally show you what we’ve been working towards all these years,” he continued.

When is ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ coming out?
The expected release date for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is December 20th this year. The official synopsis of the film, shared by Comic Book, reveals a little more about what we can expect:
“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must form an unlikely alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible devastation. The film will feature the return of Jason Momoa as AquamanPatrick Wilson as Orm Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta and Randall Park as Stephen Shin. ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Pilou Asbaek has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role, while Jani Zhao will play new character Stingray, Indya Moore will play Karshon and Vincent Regan will play Atlan, previously played by Graham McTavish in ‘Aquaman’ . ‘”.

In early June, James Wan revealed that one of the biggest challenges for ‘Aquaman 2’ was fitting the sequel into the movie reboot. DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wan discussed how difficult it was to adapt the film to the new era of the franchise following Gunn’s rise to power:
“I had to make changes along the way. The DCU extension it went through many different iterations and one of the hardest things about this movie was keeping up with what was going on. Fortunately, the Aquaman universe it is quite far from the rest of the world. We visit a lot of different underwater realms that aren’t necessarily related to what happens in the other movies and the other characters, which gives us a lot of independence,” James explains.
I can tell my story autonomously without being influenced too much by other events, but at the same time I have to be aware of what is happening,” the director points out.
Thus, despite the doubts and uncertainties surrounding the DC Cinematic Universe, James Wan assures us that “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will offer us an exciting and spectacular cinematic experience.
The film promises to immerse us in an underwater world full of action and adventure, where Aquaman fans will be able to enjoy an exciting new chapter in the franchise. With an all-star cast and a promising story, we can only look forward to the highly anticipated release of this next aquatic installment.
