James Mangold’s BOBA FETT Spaghetti Western Movie Was “Borderline Rated R”

James Mangold recently revealed that the Boba Fett film he was developing for Lucasfilm several years ago would be heavily inspired by the director’s spaghetti westerns Sergio Leone.

Mangold once again opened up about his scrapped Boba Fett project during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. It is here that he revealed that the project would be “rated R limit”. He explained:

“Well, by the time I was doing that, I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone. But I was probably doing a lot more than a borderline R-rated kind of spaghetti western… spaghetti westerns on one planet.

He then added that if he had, the world would never have been introduced to Baby Yoda. You see, the concept of him has been substantially reworked The Mandalorian AND Boba Fett’s book Shows. mangold said:

“The world would never have been able to hug Baby Yoda if I had… So… Because he didn’t really belong in the world that I was imagining, but it was just… in a moment of kind of re- alignment after what happened with the Han Solo movie, they suddenly decided they weren’t going to do movies like that and I think the streaming opportunities presented themselves.

While I would have loved to see Mangold’s Boba Fett film, I actually like the new one Star Wars film he is currently working on. That film is set in ancient times in the Star Wars universe, it’s about discovering the Force, and that’s a much more interesting and unique story to tell!

Mangold previously shared some additional insight into the type of Star Wars movie he’s making and said, “It occurred to me that if I was making one, it felt like most of what they were thinking of doing with the movies were either in the Star Wars present or in the future, and what appealed to me the most was the distant past and how this galaxy was formed and how, more specifically, the Force was discovered.”

Would you have liked to see Mangold make a Boba Fett Spaghetti Western movie that’s borderline rated?
