Netflix, the streaming giant, continues to make changes to its platform in a quest to grow its subscriber base and generate more profit. While the pandemic has affected many businesses, Netflix has been no exception and has been rolling out changes to its service in recent years to stay afloat. The latest addition is the removal of the basic ad-free plan.
From June 26, Netflix has decided to remove the option to subscribe to the basic ad-free plan, but this measure only affects new subscribers or those users who want to switch their current plan to a cheaper one. Users who are already on the basic ad-free plan will not be affected by this change, so they can continue to enjoy their subscription without interruption.
It is important to note that, for the time being, this ad-free basic plan removal was only implemented in Canada and it has not spread to other countries, such as Mexico. Netflix intends to attract more subscribers to the basic plan with ads in Canada, but it is possible that this measure will expand to other territories in the future.
It must be remembered that the takedown of shared accounts also began in Canada and spread to Mexicoso we will be careful how this situation evolves.

Netflix’s offers are misleading, according to OCU
Three plans are currently offered in Canada: the ad-free Basic plan, the Standard plan (at an additional cost for adding an additional member), and the Premium plan. These options offer users different benefits and features, so that they can choose the option that best suits their needs and budget.

However, Netflix is not without controversy. Recently, the Consumers and Users Organization (OCU) filed a complaint against the platform due to an allegedly deceptive offer. Second OCUthe basic plan subscription is not displayed prominently on the platform, but appears detailed only when the option “See all plans“.
This lack of transparency has generated criticism from consumers of the streaming platform, who believe that this information is misleading, and now the question of canceling the basic plan is arising.
