The DC Comics cinematic universe suffered another setback with the release of the movie ‘The Flash’. Despite the efforts of the production and the good reviews received by Tom Cruise and Stephen King, the film starring Ezra Miller failed to take off at the box office. This failure had direct consequences on another long-awaited project – “Batman Beyond”which would have starred Michael Keaton.

A few months ago, the existence of a secret film in development starring Michael Keaton, titled “Batman Beyond”. At the time, the cancellation of ‘Batgirl’ was believed to have been the reason for the project’s halt. However, the reality is that the film was waiting for the box office results of ‘The Flash’, as its release was scheduled after Muschietti’s film.

‘Batman Beyond’ will follow in the wake of’Fast”, but the poor box office results of the latter completely scuttled the project. Kevin Smith, renowned director and comics expert, gave details about this film and how it is related to DC Studios.

Smith revealed that if ‘The Flash’ were successful, one of the next Batman movies would be ‘Batman Beyond’ with Michael Keaton in the lead role. However, the disappointing results of ‘The Flash’ grounded that possibility.

Set in a dystopian future, this story features a new hero who takes on the role of the Dark Knight and an older Bruce Wayne as his mentor. The involvement of Michael Keaton, remembered by many as one of Batman’s greatest performers, would have added an element of nostalgia and excitement for longtime fans. Photo: DC Comics.

Unfortunately, ‘The Flash’ opened at even lower numbers than ‘Black Adam’, grossing just $55.1 million in its opening weekend. It is clear that the clean reboot of the DC universe not a good start. James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are responsible for the project, must clarify that their set of series and films is unrelated to the previous DC universe, still known today as the Snyderverse.
