Blumhouse TV has obtained the rights to Clémence MichallonThe debut novel of the psychological thriller The quiet tenant, and the plan is to adapt it as a limited series or streaming movie. The story centers around a serial killer and it looks like it’s going to be a great and intense project!
In the story, “Aidan Thomas is a hard working family man and quite a beloved figure in the small northern town where he lives. He is the type of man who always lends a helping hand and has a good word for everyone. But Aidan has a dark secret that he’s been keeping from everyone in town and those closest to him. He is a kidnapper and a serial killer. Aidan has killed eight women and there is a ninth he has destined for death: Rachel, imprisoned in a shed in the courtyard, fearing for her life.
When Aidan’s wife dies, “he and his thirteen-year-old daughter Cecilia are forced to move. Aidan has no choice but to take Rachel along, introducing her to Cecilia as a family friend who needs a place to stay. Aidan bets that Rachel, after five years of captivity, has been brainwashed and afraid to try to escape. But Rachel is a fighter and a survivor, and she recognizes that Cecilia could be the lifeline she’s been waiting for all these years. As Rachel tests the boundaries of her new living situation, she begins to form a tenuous bond with Cecilia. And when local diner owner Emily develops a crush on the handsome widower, she finds herself drawn into Rachel and Cecilia’s orbit, coming perilously close to discovering Aidan’s secret.
Jason Blum, Founder and CEO of Blumhouse. he said in a statement: “I read Clémence’s novel in one breath and was captivated. The story has all the elements of a great film adaptation.”
Michallon said he “knew from the beginning that his serial killer wasn’t going to get a chance to speak. I’m a journalist by trade, so I took writing an authentic serial killer novel as a big responsibility. Since the serial killer here is victimizing women, there was something important about centering female voices.
He added, “Jason Blum is one of the most dynamic producers working today. With an enviable list of film and TV credits, and every single one of them has screen-bound viewers. His vision to bring The Quiet Tenant to viewers is incredibly strong. I am thrilled that he has taken an interest in my work and to collaborate with him on this project.”
Michallon will executive produce the project and there are currently no writers yet.
