Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning part one director Christopher McCarrie recently revealed that its upcoming action-packed sequel has kicked off with a bang, kicking off the first day of filming with the most ambitious scene and most dangerous stunt in the lead, Tom Cruise, had done up to now. Cruise is known for his stunt work as he does everything by himself and always tries to push the limits of his previous projects. This scene saw the actor ride a motorcycle off the edge of a cliff and then parachute to safety while in free fall.
Now Cruise himself has spoken out on the choice of making this scene first. He explained to Entertainment Tonight:
“Well, we know we’re either going to continue with the film or we’re not going to. We know the first day! Let us know on day one what’s going to happen – do we all continue or is it a big rewrite? I was training and I was ready. You have to be razor sharp when you do something like this. It was very important as we were preparing the film that it was actually the first thing. I don’t want to give up and go photograph other things and have my mind somewhere else. All were prepared. Let’s just do it.
It’s pretty practical to end it so you don’t get bogged down with the scary thing looming over your head. She also had to know if he would survive the epic jump to know if he would be able to shoot the rest of the film! Cruise must be a total adrenaline junkie. I can’t wait to see this scene and the rest of the movie when it comes out next month on July 12th.
