It turns out that Jon Hamm was originally supposed to star in David Fincher2014 thriller Girl gone. She had to play the character that Ben Affleck played, was actually the director’s first choice for the role!
So what happened? Why didn’t Hamm star in the film? The actor explained in an interview with Watch What Happens Live, that it was all because of his Mad Men shooting schedule. There was just no room in that schedule for him to escape and make the movie.
Hamm said: “I was down to the end of the [Gone Girl]. It had to be me, but we had to film Mr. Draper’s continuing adventures. So, Fincher had to find another actor to play the role, and that led to the casting of Ben Affleck.
I would be interested in seeing Hamm in that role and while I’m sure he would have been great, Affleck was truly perfect for the role and delivered one of the best performances of his career.
In the film, “former New York writer Nick Dunne (Affleck) and his glamorous wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) present audiences with a portrait of a happy marriage. However, when Amy goes missing on the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. The resulting police pressure and media frenzy erode the Dunnes’ image of a happy union, leading to tantalizing questions about who Nick and Amy really are.
As for what Hamm is up to these days, he’s currently set to star in a sequel to Confess, Fletchwhich is in early development, with writer and director Greg Mottola. It is also ready to appear in Good omens Season 2 and the upcoming movie Maggie Moore(s).
