During a recent interview on The Big Thing, Katee Sackoffspoke about Bo-Katan’s big rally speech in The Mandalorian Season 3 before embarking on a journey to reclaim their home planet of Mandalore. It turns out that the speech was originally much longer than we ended up getting, and Sackhoff was disappointed that it got cut.

This was supposed to be like William Wallace’s great speech from the historical epic of 1995 Brave heart. That speech set the stage for rally speeches in films. When Sackhoff was asked to elaborate on a couple of scenes she was disappointed with, she said:

“And that was what – the comparison you made, that was the exciting thing. You are inspiring these two separate clans to go out and take back their home world, it has to be exciting; it has to be big. I really… love this whole season, I thought it was funny, but in that moment for me, I was like, ‘Oh.’ I wish they had given more context to what happened just before. Because I think it would have made that speech heavier… Most of the footage I did was, you know, William Wallace-like.”

It’s a shame we won’t get to see that big emotional rally speech Bo-Katan gave. I always thought what we had was a little lackluster, but they had something better to start with! Not sure why they couldn’t have included the full speech.

During the conversation, it was brought up that there might be more time for dialogue on the slightly longer episodes of the show. It’s not like these shows on Disney+ are bound to a strict time limit. When asked about it, the actress said:

“Honestly, I really don’t know what it is. You know, when we’re in it, it feels like they’re longer. I’m always surprised how fast they are, because the episodes — there’s so many people working on this show, there’s so many parts moving, it’s so expensive to shoot, and it’s always surprised me that they’re so short.”

There’s no doubt that budget plays a big part in episode lengths, but it doesn’t seem like it would be a big deal to include an actual “take back Mandalore” rally speech.
