Pixar is once again trying to ignite our imaginations with their latest animated film Elementary. This is a beautiful and fascinating love story about how opposites attract and how, although two individuals may be so different from each other, they can fall in love with each other. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to a movie like this in so many different ways.
The story focuses on two characters, Ember and Wade, who form an unlikely relationship. What makes this relationship so difficult is the fact that Ember is fire and Wade is water, and the two elements aren’t supposed to work together. How does it work!? Well, this movie explores that story.
In addition to being two completely different elements, their personalities are also very contrasting. Ember is a quick-witted and fiery woman with a short temper. While Wade is a very emotional individual, she is sweet and cries a lot.
In the story Ember finds herself venturing out of her comfort zone from her father’s shop that she has been waiting all her life to take over. As she begins to explore the world outside her normal environment, she begins to learn more about herself, her talents and what she is capable of.
I really liked this story and its charm will leave the audience with fuzzy and warm feelings. It can be quite emotional at times, as Pixar movies usually are. The film introduces a delightful cast of characters, each with their own distinct personalities and quirks that are relatable. Their travels, struggles, and growth throughout the film create a sincere bond that tugs at the heartstrings.
Pixar has always excelled at infusing its films with fun humor, and the playful banter between characters provides moments of levity throughout the story. The film strikes a balance between lighthearted humor and more thought-provoking themes that dive into complex, deeper emotions.
The film plays with universal concepts such as love, loss, family, self-discovery and the delicate balance of life itself and how to deal with it. There’s a lot to love about this film, and it’s one that families are sure to enjoy watching together.
The film is directed by Peter Sohn (The good dinosaur), and the wonderful voice cast includes Leah Lewis AND Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade, respectively; Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s retired dad-to-be, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s blustery boss and Air-Ball lover, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Freemason Wertheimer as Ember’s admired Earth neighbor, Clod; AND Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.
