Earlier this year, it was announced that Amazon Studios is moving forward with a tomb Raider TV series, with Phoebe Waller Bridge set up to write and executive produce. Waller-Bridge just came off the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and IGN caught up with her to talk about her action-packed career. When she was asked what she is able to incorporate into the tomb Raider series after working on There is no time to die and now Indiana Jones, the writer/actress has noticed that the DNA of tomb Raider exists within those two great franchises and is thrilled to find the blend of great scope and scale alongside something that has a lot of heart.
“There is so much I can incorporate. I mean, the character of Lara Croft was inspired by Indiana Jones and James Bond. I love the idea, as Steven Spielberg describes it, of the greatest show on Earth, like in being able to do things on that scale and have such big adventures and that comedy and heart are matched but in this kind of big, big and really through all the adventurous stuff I learned from them [franchises]It’s actually like keeping something grounded and allowing it to be bigger than itself in some ways. And so hopefully that all translates seamlessly into Tomb Raider.”
Within this resurgence of the tomb Raider franchise, Amazon Studios will also develop a new film and video games. There is no known release date for any of these projects, and everything seems to be taking a back seat in light of the writers’ strike. We’ll let you know when things get back up and running.
