Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns for its highly anticipated second season this week, and we’ll see Monte Ansone back in action as Captain Pike as he leads his crew of the USS Enterprise. In a recent interview with TVLine, Mount talks about the kind of leader Pike is and explains an aspect of the character that he says gives him a “big dad personality.” He said:
“I think he’s one of those guys who’s also constantly amazed at being put into a leadership position. Sometimes it’s more comfortable for him to throw the question at the room and say, ‘I’m out of ideas. Who wants to find a solution?’ But in a weird way, that’s a great dad personality, isn’t it?”
Rebecca Romijn, who plays Pike’s number one Una Chin-Riley, then moves on to likening the crew to kids and how kids can have good ideas too. She said:
“When you start relying on your crew on the Enterprise and they end up saving the day, it’s like when you see your kid doing something. You’re like, ‘I never would have thought of that. It’s amazing. You are right.'”
Romiijn continues to talk about Una’s problems in the upcoming season after she was arrested by the Federation authorities in the season 1 finale for hiding her Illyrian identity. She really needs Pike’s help in this situation:
“She’s counting on Pike to help her and track down the one person she thinks can help her. You have decided to live authentically. She won’t hide anymore.
Fans are so excited for the return of this show and we don’t have to wait much longer! Strange new worlds Season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ on June 15th!
