I looked at that again Arnold Schwarzenegger Netflix documentary, Arnold, in recent days. and i love it! It offers loads of fascinating insights into Schwarzenegger’s life and career. The second episode of the documentary focuses on the film career of Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone he was interviewed for that segment. He talked about their rivalry and what it was like for them as they fought to be the biggest action star of the time.

Stallone admitted in an interview that they hated each other in the 80s and could not even stand being in the same room together. The competition was super fierce, and at one point Schwarzenegger once enticed Stallone to appear in a panned film.

Stallone also admitted that Schwarzenegger was the superior star and explained, “You actually relied on your body to tell the story, the dialogue wasn’t necessary. I saw there was an opportunity because no one else was doing it except another guy from Austria, which doesn’t need to say much…he was superior. He just had all the answers. He had the body. He had the strength. That was his character.

Stallone went on to talk about the differences in their action heroes: “I had to get my ass kicked constantly, whereas Arnold, never got hurt much, and I’m like, ‘Arnold, you could go out and fight a dragon, and you’d come back with a Band-Aid.’”

Schwarzenegger went on to praise Stallone for his work: “Every time he went out with a movie like Rambo II, I had to find a way to overcome it. Without Stallone, I might not have been as motivated in the ’80s to make the kind of movies I did and work as hard as I did. I’m a competitive person.”

As the years have passed and the two actors have grown older, they have been able to put aside their hatred for each other and become friends. They would go on to appear in movies together like Escape plan and three gods Consumables movie. They’re even carving pumpkins together.

The two actors were so much fun to watch in the movies they’ve made in the past and both had their strengths and weaknesses. But, in the ’90s, I definitely preferred Arnold’s films to Stallone’s. Which action star did you like the most?
