Actor Michael Shannon is returning to the DC universe. After playing the villainous General Zod in Man of Steelplays the character again in the film The flash, due to his storyline skipping the timeline, which brings him back. The actor previously spoke about his return, saying:
“I was a little confused. I said, ‘If I remember correctly, I think I died in Man of Steel. Are they sure they got the right man?’ But then they explained to me the whole phenomenon of the multiverse, that… I was a little behind the times on that.”
Now that Shannon has shot his scenes for the film and is in the know, he’s no longer confused, but has become critical of the whole idea of a multiverse.
Shannon recently told Collider:
“Yeah. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t entirely satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like someone playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And I’m combative!’ It’s not quite the deep character study situation that I honestly thought Man of Steel was. Whether people think he’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like Man of Steel was actually a pretty sophisticated story. Like The The Flash is too, but it’s not Zod’s story. They’re basically there to present a challenge.”
Yes, it’s not just about you, Michael Shannon! Sorry you are part of the story and not the main attraction. Believe it or not, he has a goal in the story and plays a key role in the film. But this movie is about The Flash and his multiversal journey. The flash it’s a great movie and it’s hitting theaters this weekend. Tickets are now available.
