Tom Holland’s latest project, the series The Crowded Room, received sharp criticism by the experts. The British actor, best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ventures into a new genre with this psychological thriller that promised to be a one-of-a-kind experience. However, it seems that the intense workload during production has led the actor to rethink his short-term plans.
The miniseries follows the story of Danny Sullivan, played by Holland, who is arrested for his involvement in a shooting at New York’s Rockefeller Center in 1979. Through interviews with investigator Rya Goodwin, played by Amanda Seyfried, he learns that he reveals the mysterious past that shaped this character.
Unfortunately, Billy Milligan’s adaptation of True Crime was destroyed by critics, garnering just 10% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
In an interview with Extra, Tom Holland he explained that he was drawn to creator Akiva Goldsman’s vision for this project. Goldsman, an Oscar-winning screenplay for him in “A Beautiful Mind” (2001), pitched a story about mental health and trauma, something he resonated deeply with the 27-year-old actor. He said he accepted the role because he was terrified of playing this character and felt it was time to tell a story about the mind, its power and its ability to lose its balance.

“I realized I had to take a break”
In addition to his participation in front of the cameras, Tom Holland has taken on the role of executive producer for the second time in his career, the first time in the film ‘Uncharted: Off the map’ (2022). However, this new responsibility, added to the character’s emotional exhaustion, it made him decide to take a well deserved break from acting during the next year.
I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve always believed that hard work is good” Holland said.
I really enjoyed playing this role, but there came a point where I realized I had to take a break. I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and spent some time at the beach. Now I’m taking a gap year, and that’s a reflection of how tough this project has been.”
THE Tom Holland’s decision to take a gap year shows the impact the series had on him. While he has faced emotional challenges and the added pressure of his role as executive producer, he has always been known for his dedication and hard work in his work. However, recognizing the need to take care of one’s psychophysical well-being is a courageous and admirable step.
The Crowded Room premieres on Apple TV Plus this Friday, June 9, and while reviews haven’t been favorable, we’ll have to wait and see how audiences welcome this production and Tom Holland’s performance.
