OLDBOY director Park Chan-wook to write and produce historical drama for Netflix WAR AND REVOLT

Park Chanwookthe Korean director behind Old boy, Lady Vengeance, Thirst, StokerAND Decision to leavewill produce and co-write the historical drama film War and revolt for Netflix. This will be the director’s first collaboration with Netflix, which could grow into something more if he enjoys his experience working with them.

War and revolt tells the story “of two childhood friends, played by Gang Dong-won AND Jeongmin Parkwho become adversaries”.

Gang plays the film as “the enigmatic Cheon-young, a character whose extraordinary martial prowess challenges his humble origins as a slave. Struggling to break free from the shackles of servitude, Cheon-young combines charm with action.

Park Jeong-min plays the role of Jong-ryeo, “Cheon-young’s former master and scion of the most influential military family in the Joseon Dynasty. After passing the military service exam, Jong-ryeo becomes King Seonjo’s personal guard, leading to a heartbreaking reunion with his former friend. The role requires delving into the complex psyche of a man torn between friendship and duty.

The film is directed by Kim Sang-man (Midnight FM) from a screenplay by Shin Chul and Park Chan-wook. The cast also includes Cha Seung won, Kim Shin-rock, Jin Sun-kyu AND Jung Sung sick.

Cha plays King Seonjo, “a monarch who abandons his people at the onset of the Japanese invasion, but who seeks to restore his reputation and authority after the war.” Kim portrays “a steadfast member of the civilian militia who defies social norms and faces obstacles”. Jin plays the role of “a civilian militia leader descended from the traditional ruling class who emerges as an inspiring force amidst the chaos of the invasion.” Jung plays “an intimidating Japanese warlord who recognizes Cheon-young’s extraordinary swordsmanship.”

It looks like it’s going to end up being a great movie.
