Zack Snyder’s REBEL MOON gets eight great photos with new details on what to expect

If you are enthusiastic about Zack Snyderis a sci-fi thriller rebel moon, Vanity Fair posted eight great new photos for you to try! The photos feature many of the characters and settings from the story, and the visuals are really great. We also have a lot of new details to share with you, and you can definitely see the strong influence of Star Wars inside!

The story is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They send a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them make a stand against the Tyrant.

So basically, a group of ragtag rebels rise up to fight against a giant evil empire. Doesn’t sound familiar at all! Snyder talked about what he makes rebel moon different from Star Wars, born from an idea he pitched to Lucasfilm years ago. He said:

“In this movie I was saying, ‘Of course it’s a space opera, but let’s not shoot it like that. Let’s try to frame it in a more intimate way, so that the sci-fi elements seem more grounded.’ We don’t always say, “Look how big our spaceships are or how weird our planets are!” It happens, but it happens as an organic part of the world you’re in.

One of the spaceships that will be featured in rebel moon it’s called The King’s Gaze, and Snyder describes that ship:

“That ship is a destroyer of worlds. There’s like 8,000 soldiers on that ship. They’ve got, like, 200 dropships and 100 tanks, and it’s got this huge boom-boom howitzer. You could level the surface of a planet to the ground. If they fired on a planet three days in a row, there would be nothing left. They do it a lot.

It’s really not hard to see how much this film was influenced by Star Wars. Snyder previously said, “This is me growing up like Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this too becomes a huge IP and a universe that can be built.”

In case you’re wondering if there will be lightsabers in the film, the answer is no…because there are flaming swords! These swords are wielded by a character called Nemesis, who is played by Doona Bae. Snyder spoke about those swords saying:

“These swords are powered by the gauntlets he holds. The gloves are these ancient ones [artifacts] from her home world, and part of the rite of passage of being a warrior in her world is that you have to cut off your arm and then put on these kind of robotic arms. This allows you to wield these molten metal blades.

Snyder also shared some details about the Imperium’s Hellraiser-type nightmarish scribes in the film saying:

“Their purpose is to write information. But instead of text, they use living human beings as their paper and implant memories and images into it… You are put into stasis if you are a page, and your body becomes like a hard drive. Scribes have the ability to transfer what they see, [but they’re] manipulated by politics, and write only what they should.

Damnation! Look, I know there are a lot of similarities with Star Wars, but I’m still excited to watch these movies! You can read much more information on Vanity Fair. The two films will have both a regular film that everyone can watch as well as extended R-rated cuts for those folks looking for something a little more hardcore.

The film is also the protagonist Sophia Botella, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huismann, Anthony Hopkins, AND Alfonso Herrera.

rebel moon The first part will arrive on Netflix on December 22nd.
