Amazon Studios is developing a series adaptation of the 1999 thriller Cruel intentions which is based on the novel dangerous liaisonsand the cast for that series has been announced.
The main cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook (First Murder, Impeachment: American Crime Story) like Carolina, Zac Burgess (Completely completely fine) like Lucien, Khobe Clarke (Yellow Jackets, Firefly Lane) like Scott, Brooke Lena Johnson (You, south of hell) as Beatrice, Sarah Silva (The Boys, American Horror Stories) like CeCe, Sean Patrick Thomas (Cruel intentions) as Professor Chadwick, John Harlan Kim (The last thing he said to me, 9-1-1) as Blaise, e Myra Molly (He is all of that, the bold kind) as Annie.
They will be joined by Laura Benanti (Younger, Nashville), who will have a recurring guest-starring role of Claudia, Caroline’s mother. Jon Tenney (The biggest and closest crimes) will appear in a recurring guest-starring role as US Congressman Russell.
The series is said to follow “two ruthless step-brothers who would do anything to stay at the top of the social pyramid. In this case, their focus is the hierarchy of Greek life at an elite Washington, DC college. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire pan-Hellenic system, they will do anything to preserve their power and reputation, even attempting to seduce the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.
The streamer has ordered an eight-episode series for the adaptation, which will likely be released via Freevee, Amazon’s free streaming service, though it could potentially move to Prime Video.
This new take on the series is written and executive produced by Phoebe Fisher with Sara Goodman. Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty will serve as executive producers. Moritz was a producer on the original film.
Production on the series is expected to begin this month in Toronto.
