Liongate e Quentin Tarantino are teaming up to bring us a 4K remaster of the 2001 revenge thriller Kill Bill for its 20th anniversary. The studio also acquired the distribution rights to Kill Bill: Volume 2 AND Jackie Brownrounding their number of Tarantino titles to eight.
CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement on the company’s post-earnings conference call and said, “We have expanded what is now Hollywood’s largest portfolio of Tarantino films to include Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful EightAND Proof of death in addition to the films we just rounded up.”
Jim Packerhead of global television and digital, added: “It was a coup for us to get the three Quentin Tarantino films. We have eight, which gives our library a unique situation in Hollywood, and we want to take advantage of it.”
With Kill Bill get a 4K remaster, I hope it also gets a re-release in theaters, because it would be fun to revisit it on the big screen! I imagine Kill Bill: Vol. 2 it will eventually get the 4K update as well.
Somewhere along the line, that would certainly be nice to see Kill Bill Vol. 3! If that happens, it will most likely happen as a series or book.
Kill Bill follows “The Bride”, a former assassin played by Umma Thurmanseeking revenge against her former colleagues in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DiVAS) who betrayed her on her wedding day and left her for dead.
In Kill Bill: Volume 1, The bride awakens from a four-year coma determined to hunt down and kill the people responsible for her suffering. She embarks on a bloody journey, one by one targeting her former associates. Along the way, she meets O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), a former Yakuza leader who now rules the Tokyo underworld, Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), a suburban housewife turned murderer, and Budd (Michael Madsen), a bouncer and former member of DiVAS. The Bride defeats each of them, but her ultimate target, Bill (David Carradine), remains elusive.
In Kill Bill: Volume 2, The bride continues her quest to eliminate her remaining enemies. Track Down Elle Driver (Daryl Anna), a one-eyed killer, and confronts Budd, who has retreated to an isolated trailer. After defeating them both, The Bride finally confronts Bill, who reveals the truth about their past and the circumstances that led to their betrayal of him. The final confrontation between The Bride and Bill culminates in a tense and emotional climax.
