Hero Complex Gallery has released a great press for Tim BurtonThe classic sci-fi comedy from 1996 Mars Attacks! The poster was created by Benedict Woodhead, and I’m a fan of what he created! Mars Attacks! it was such an incredibly fun and unique movie and as a fan this is one poster I would love to add to my collection.
The film is a satirical homage to 1950s B-movies and pulp science fiction, and had an impressive all-star cast.
The story revolves around the invasion of Earth by Martians arriving on flying saucers. The Martians initially seem friendly, but quickly reveal their true intent to annihilate humanity. As they unleash their destructive power, chaos ensues, and various characters find themselves caught in the midst of intergalactic conflict.
The ensemble cast includes Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pierce Brosnan, Annette Bening, Danny DeVito, Sarah Jessica Parker, and many others, each portraying different characters whose stories intertwine as the invasion unfolds. Nicholson plays both the President of the United States and a Las Vegas hotel owner, providing a dual performance that adds to the comedic elements of the film.
“Mars Attacks!” pays homage to classic alien invasion films while parodying their conventions. It takes a humorous approach to the genre, subverting expectations and offering a satirical commentary on society, politics and human nature.
The poster is available in a limited edition of 85 prints, and the 24×36 size print will set you back $65.
