Call ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Hypocritical For Giving Sushi At Premiere – (Disney) Special

Controversy at sea! ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Is Accused Of Hypocrisy For Giving Sushi To Its Premiere. The magic of ‘The Little Mermaid’ has fascinated generations with its message of empathy towards the inhabitants of the ocean and its denunciation of the mistreatment they suffer on the surface, where they are transformed into food or decorative objects. However, the the live-action remake of this iconic story was roundly criticized from an apparent contradiction in its American premiere: sushi was served with fish!

Fans were quick to dismiss Disney’s decision as hypocritical, since the film advocates for the protection of sea creatures. Sushi, a typical Japanese dish, is made up of rice rolls seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar and salt, and is usually combined with raw fish, shellfish or vegetables.

Although sushi can be enjoyed without marine ingredients, it is undeniable that it is closely associated with the consumption of fish. For this reason, it’s questionable whether Disney included this option in the ‘The Little Mermaid’ premiere menu.

One of the premiere attendees shared his experience on TikTok, baffling his followers by revealing that he was offered sushi, a choice he called “obscure” given the film’s theme. In the film it is shown that fish are happiest in the sea and are consumed on the surface, as depicted in the famous song “Under the Sea” performed by Sebastián.

Some comments expressed sadness that Flounder might have been eaten, faithful friend of Ariel. Others have pointed out that the sushi appeared to be vegetarian, but the user who posted the video said there were options with chicken and salmon.
