A Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund recently took part in a Q&A session at a special event, Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: A Robert Englund Marathon, which took place at the Aero Theater. During Q&A, the actor reflected on his career, and if you’re a fan of the actor, this is a must-see!
Englund celebrates the 50th anniversary of his Hollywood career – which began with the 1974 film Buster and Billie – as he discusses various projects throughout his career, including his time working on Stay Hungry (1976) with Arnold Schwarzenegger, his fond memories on the set of New Nightmare on Elm Street and working with Kelly Rowland on Freddy vs. Jason. The conversation also turned to Wes Craven’s original draft of Dream Warriors, Englund’s role in “Stranger Things,” and why he likely won’t return to the director’s chair.
Englund also shares a funny story about the set of the original Elm Street that still haunts him; he takes a loving jab at “Stranger Things” villain Vecna (“Vecna kinda stole Freddy’s feline walk. Wonderful character, wonderful makeup,” he says lovingly); and it touches on a partnership between Freddy Krueger and Pepsi that almost happened many years ago.
As you know, there is a new documentary focusing on the actor’s career titled Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Storycoming to SCREAMBOX June 6th.
The documentary is said to look beyond the film credits and “examine Englund’s career and his navigation through the cutthroat world of Hollywood,” which is sure to be interesting for fans. There will be a lot of things loaded into this document that we never knew about Englund before.
Englund said in a statement, “This aging veteran character actor was both surprised and flattered to find he is the subject of the documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares. Working with directors Gary Smart and Christopher Griffiths and the rest of the team has been a joy because they are fans of the genre like me. For Yours Truly, watching the film is a bit like Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn attending their own funeral. Gary, Chris and Adam (Evans) managed to find old movies and TV shows that I forgot I was in. I would come back from the dead! Seriously — it’s an accurate reminder of a working actor’s journey — dreams can come true.”
Enjoy the Q&A!
