Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn recently shared the original sketches he drew for Rocket Raccoon’s friends in history, friends from his tragic and sad past. These friends include Lylla, Floor and Teefs.
The story of these characters was beautiful in the relationship they formed with others, but also extremely sad in how that story turned out for them and how it affected Rocket’s life. The sketches came with the following note from Gunn:
My scripts have become more and more unconventional over the years. At the time of #GotGVol3 my script included, of course, all the songs from the movie, but also a dictionary and analysis of human speech, maps, action designs and simple character designs like these – the basis for characters like Floor, who never they were in the comics, and Lylla, which was adapted from the comics. The script is the blueprint for the film and anything I can include to help my crew understand the story and support the foundation, I will include. That said, being the director as well, I transgress in many areas that are traditionally directorial: songs, images, shots, etc. So I wouldn’t necessarily suggest that beginning screenwriters write scripts like this!
You can check out Gunn’s original sketches below with the notes he included. It’s nice to see how Gunn’s vision for these characters began.
