One of the most exciting and talked about moments The Mandalorian Season 3 is when actor Jar Jar Binks Ahmed Best he introduced himself as a Jedi named Kelleran Beq who helps little Grugu escape death after the execution of Order 66.
Fans have been hoping to see more of the character and, while he hasn’t appeared in the rest of the series, the filmmakers Dave Filoni AND Jon Favreau teased his return. During a recent interview with EW, Filoni said:
“It’s always a possibility. We love Ahmed and he did a great job. It was a real thrill for us to get him involved.”
I would bet money on Ahmed appearing again in the series as I have no doubt that we will see more of Grugu’s backstory which Kelleran Beq is obviously a big part of. Filoni goes on to say that the idea to incorporate Best’s Beq came early in the development process, saying:
“We’ve talked to him about it. We come up with these ideas and we think: Who could be working on them? We make sure before we go too far to bring them into the process, so it’s not just like, ‘That’s who you are’ I’m going to play.’ It’s like, ‘What do you think about this? We want you to be this person. What do you think?’ [We try to] make it a real collaboration and think that’s really the key to its success.”
Favreau then spoke about the character and working with Best, saying:
“He had been working a lot on that Kelleran Beq character for Jedi Temple Challenge. So he’s been involved with Star Wars all along and he’s definitely formulated this character. And we love drawing from everything Star Wars, and even things that aren’t canon. they feel right, we’ll put them in. And now that character exists squarely in Star Wars canon.”
Favreau added, “I think people like seeing that character. I want to know more about that character.” When previously there was talk of jumping in The Mandalorianbetter said:
“Honestly, I had to think about it. I’ve been in the world of Star Wars for so long and my story is such a roller coaster ride of emotions. So going back to Star Wars was not an easy decision for me. It wasn’t something I could immediately say yes to. I had to marinate on top for a while. I mean, I was excited. I don’t think people really understand how much I care about Star Wars. I really care. I’m really into the storytelling, the mythology, the fans. I really want Star Wars to deliver, and if I become a hindrance to that, then I shouldn’t be there. I don’t want to be bigger than history. I don’t want to be bigger than mythology. I want to contribute, I want to add to it. So it took me a minute.
I am happy to see Best enter this project. It was amazing and I can’t wait to go back!
