In the series, “Caplan plays Alexandra Mullen, a young congresswoman who has tried to distance herself from her father’s political legacy. Plemons is Roger Carlson: Mullen’s former “body man” who seeks a return to the national scene together with Mullen. Allen plays Sheila Mullen: a former First Lady and federal bench candidate whose professional ambitions take a back seat to her husband’s political career. Britton plays Valerie Whitesell: a savvy and intelligent political operative who was Mullen’s former chief of staff.
De Niro executive produces and leads the cast as George Mullen, a hugely popular, yet complicated, former American president who is pulled out of retirement to head a commission charged with investigating a devastating global cyber-attack.
day zero, from creator/writer/executive producer Eric Newman under his Grand Electric Productions deal with Netflix, and creator/writer/executive producer Noah Oppenheim, begs the question: how do we find truth in a world in crisis, seemingly torn apart by forces beyond our control? And in an age filled with conspiracy theories and subterfuge, how many of those forces are the product of our own actions, perhaps even our own imaginations?
Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt is also credited as creator/executive producer of the six-episode limited series; Jonathan Glickman serves as executive producer through his production company, Panoramic Media; Lesli Linka Glatter will direct all episodes and also serve as an executive producer.
