EXCLUSIVE: New York distribution company Visit Films has acquired worldwide rights to the family drama year of the foxwhich will make its debut at the Seattle International Film Festival before its Cannes release.
Directed by Megan Griffiths and written by Eliza Flug, the film follows Ivy (Sarah Jeffery), a multiracial teenager as she navigates Aspen’s elite party scene amid the bitter divorce of her adoptive parents (Jane Adams and Jake Weber). . As she watches her affluent community report on predatory behavior, Ivy struggles to find her own way without getting lost in this searing exploration of the complexities of power, privilege, and personal agency.
Inspired by true events, the pic is billed as a “resonant and timely story” told through a “personal lens that explores the empowerment and danger of stepping into your sexuality as a woman in our society.”
The film is produced by Lacey Leavitt Gray, Eliza Flug and Jennifer Roth, with Jonathan Caso serving as co-producer. It is edited by Celia Beasley. Ryan Kampe of Visit Films is handling global distribution.
“Megan is one of the first directors we worked with on Visit and I have followed her career over the years. We have always wanted to work with her again because there are few filmmakers with such a powerful way of telling such important stories,” said Kampe.
“Her particular emphasis on the experience of women in society is an essential lens that is perceptive, bold, meaningful and unique. I think buyers of this film will see many parallels with abuse by men in positions of power in the real world and want to share these insights with a global audience.”
Griffiths added, “Eliza and I are delighted to be working with Visit to bring this film to market. Ryan and his team have a thorough understanding of the themes the film addresses and are as confident as we are that it will resonate with audiences. Producer Lacey Leavitt Gray and I worked with Visit on our 2011 Sundance film The Off Hours, so we know firsthand how thoughtful and committed they will be to Year Of The Fox.”
