John Stamos he’s a well-known actor who has delighted fans on TV and as a musician for decades, but no matter what he’s working on, he’ll always be known as Uncle Jesse from the series Sold out. He was so good on that show and probably had the best relationship with kids on the show. The series often featured scenes where he and his granddaughter Michelle had sweet talks or cuddles, but their relationship didn’t start off so perfectly.

In a recent interview on Good guys podcast (via Insider), Stamos revealed that he did Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen started by Sold out when they were 11 months old, as their persistent crying on set drove him crazy. The layoff only lasted a couple of days, as the Olsen twins’ replacement babies turned out to be even worse. Stamos, who played Jesse Katsopolis in all eight seasons of Sold outhe was filming a scene where his character and Dave Coulier’s Joey changes Michelle Tanner’s diaper. The Olsen twins stopped playing Michelle during the show.

“We are shooting the scene. Joey and I were changing the baby, right? And Danny [Bob Saget] he left and said: “Take care of the children.” ‘Yeah, we get it. We understood.’ So, we take the baby downstairs, take her to the kitchen and water her. And she was screaming. Both. They wanted to be anywhere but here, and so did I.

Stamos continued:

“They were 11 months old and God bless them. They kept exchanging: “This one won’t cry.” I couldn’t face it. And I said, “This isn’t going to work” and I yelled it 10 times. I said, ‘Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.’ And so they got rid of it. They carry these two redheaded children… I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive… It had nothing to do with [them being] red hair, but they weren’t attractive.

Filming continued without the Olsen twins for “just a few days,” after which Stamos said, “Bring the Olsens back! These guys are terrible. It was a day or something; we tried with the other kids, but it didn’t work,” Stamos added.

I hate to say it, but Stamos seems like some kind of jerk in this interview. I don’t know if he’s ever met a kid before, but they don’t like being “erased” by men they don’t know while people laugh at them. I mean, which of us? They turned out to be great little actresses on the show, often stealing the show with their cute smiles and funny one-liners. And it’s weird that he said those other kids weren’t “attractive.” But I digress.

Sold out was a breakthrough for the Olsen twins, who went on to gain international fame starring in various TV movies and direct-to-DVD movies such as Passport to Paris AND We have our mouths shut. Stamos got his back Sold out role in Netflix’s sequel series Fuller housewhich ran for five seasons and 75 episodes.
