There have now been many ups and downs for the director and co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn in the years. In 2018 Gunn was fired from Disney just as he was becoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 off the ground. Warner Bros. then welcomed him with open arms to direct whatever DC film he wanted, which he ended up being The suicide squad. Disney then rehired him to direct Guardians vol. 3 and then, well…Warner Bros offered him a job running DC Studios!

He recently took it upon himself to bring us a new Superman movie Superman: Legacy. In a recent interview with THR, Gunn talked about what made him want to make a Superman movie, and he found a connection between himself and Superman. Here’s what he said:
“I completely relate to Superman because that’s all I am. He’s someone who’s an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fucking Superman. And that’s kind of how I feel.
We all see a little bit of ourselves in the Man of Steel; I think that’s why we love him so much. From everything we’ve seen since Gunn’s time with DC, he’s really excited to see this film take off. He has a lot of projects ready for DC, but he’s taking it personally and I can’t wait to see the result.
DC has released the following synopsis for the film:
Superman Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, driven by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The film will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025. I’m really excited about what Gunn will bring to the story of Man of Steel. Let us know what you think.
