James Cromwell was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 1995. BabyHe received an animal rights banner at a Starbucks protest in New York today. As part of a PETA demonstration against a chain purchasing vegan-approved non-dairy products, Cromwell and another man stood at the store’s counter, while other activists carried banners protesting the policy.
“Aradze products are sold all over the world… these products in France. There is no tax on this. “There’s an overpayment here,” said Cromwell, sitting with his hands tied at the shop counter. “Why is it so important now to understand what animal cruelty is in order to address climate change and continue to produce the dairy products served here? There is no reason for this other than greed.”
Police were called soon after, and the protesters were reportedly asked to leave after about 30 minutes. It’s unclear how the actor got his hand off the bench, but later the camera showed his hands, still with substance on them.
Cromwell became a vegetarian in 1974 and later became vegan when he played Farmer Hoggett. Baby.
He later worked with many animals and animal trainers on the Retired project. I took care of him and then of course you had lunch and it was all in front of you and I thought “all the pigs have to go” so to speak. I made that decision, too, and stuck to it throughout the shoot. I joined PETA when I came back.”
Cromwell was arrested multiple times during PETA protests, including the 2017 demonstration aimed at tackling SeaWorld Orca.
She’s not the only animal rights activist to make statements with glue lately.
Last month, a woman was protesting an egg farm owned by Glenn Taylor, former governor of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He leaned against the court during a televised live-streamed game of the NBA Tournament playoff game between the Timberwolves and the LA Clippers.
