Collider writes that director Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that “The Ridges of Madness” project has been closed.
Guillermo del Toro gave the world amazing horror films, both live and animated. The Oscar-winning actor has directed films such as Nightmare Alley, The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak and Pinocchio, and will soon present his take on the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and others.
But there are still unfulfilled projects on the wish list, and one of them may never see the light of day. Del Toro has long had his eye on H.P. Lovecraft and The Ridges of Madness, but recently announced that the film has been paused and will not be continued. When asked about reviving his pet project in a new interview, the director said: “I don’t think so, but I hope so. The Spine of Madness is full of Lovecraftian creatures and a civilization lost in time. Bringing that to life in an R-rated format is no easy task.”
As Del Toro further explained, “It all depends on how big the movie is. It’s hard to make a movie like that. It’s rated R. So I don’t think people are lining up to do it.”
By the way, we have previously written about the winners of the Toronto Film Festival, one of which was Guillermo del Toro’s film.
