

‘The Last Voyage of Demeter’ Will Compete Against Nicolas Cage’s Dracula in ‘Renfield’ – Broadcast (Universal Pictures)
If you thought 2022 was a year full of blockbusters in the horror genre, wait until you see what 2023 has in store for us, the year in which cinema’s most terrifying competition will take place. “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” will compete with Nicolas Cage’s “Renfield”. in the premiere of the vampire-themed film.
This film adaptation chronicles the terrifying journey of the Demeter, the Russian ship that carries Dracula from his homeland of Wallachia to England. The ship’s captain, unaware of what he is carrying, becomes convinced that an evil force is stalking the ship as its crew begin to disappear one by one. The premiere of this film will also coincide with the horror comedy ‘Renfield’ in which Nicolas Cage plays Dracula.
André Øvredal, the director of “The Autopsy of Jane Doe”, will adapt the emotional story of “The last voyage of the Demetra’, expanding the story from the original chapter length in Bram Stoker’s classic novel. The film’s US release date is confirmed to be August 11, 2023, but there’s no word yet on when it will hit theaters in Spain, Mexico and America Latin
For its part, ‘Renfield’ hits international theaters on April 27 this year, with what may be the best performance in Nicolas Cage’s career, and although the release dates of these two films are far apart, they would be competing for each other by tackling a theme on the same character, in different stories.

What is “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” about?
The film follows several characters, including a doctor, the ship’s captain and first mate, and a stowaway who has clearly chosen the wrong ship. Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton”) plays Clemens, the doctor who comes aboard the ship, and Aisling Franciosi (Lyanna Stark in “Game of Thrones”) plays Anna, a young stowaway who helps fight the ruthless vampire.
Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth in “Game of Thrones”) plays the captain, and David Dastmalchian (“Suicide Squad”) plays the first mate, Wojchek. Javier Botet, the Spanish horror actor best known for his work on “Rec,” “The Warren Files,” and “Alien,” will play the iconic role of Dracula, bringing his unique style to the character.
The trailer for the film reveals that the director will add new characters and subtext to the original story, presenting a more “animal” Dracula. than the wacky version you usually see in vampire movies. This movie promises to be one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2023.
The seventh chapter of the original novel presents Demeter’s journey from Carpathia, where they collect a strange private shipment of 24 heavy wooden boxes to be delivered to London. At first the trip seems normal, but soon strange things start happening. The captain sees a strange man on board and the crew members start disappearing.
The captain finally realizes that an evil supernatural creature is taking advantage of his crew, eliminating them one by one. In the last diary entry, the captain tightens a rosary and fastens to the mast, determined to face the monster and the storms to the last. When the ship finally reaches its next port, there is no one aboard except a man who is clearly insane.
