It’s a well-known fact that one of the original cast members hopes Star Wars era Al Pacino. Director George Luke wanted Pacino in the role of Han Solo, but the young director was making something that was not as well known and established as it is today. Variety reports that during a speech this week at The 92nd Street Y in New York, the Oscar winner recalled that he was offered the role of Han Solo in Star Warssaid:

“Well, I turned down ‘Star Wars’. When I first came in, I was the newcomer, you know what happens when you first get famous. It’s like, ‘Give it to Al.’ They gave me to play Queen Elizabeth. They gave me a script called “Star Wars”. … They offered me so much money. I do not understand. I read it. … So I said I couldn’t do it. I gave Harrison Ford a career.

Ford’s comment was a joke, and clearly a stretch, but it certainly helped pave the way for Ford to become the beloved character we all know today.

Next, Pacino will star in a Michael Redford-direct film adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic king Lear. It was originally announced in 2018. Pacino said he and the writer Bernard Rose “we’ll get to a point where we’ll have a script” and probably start shooting next year.
