Nosferatu is Eggers’ passion project, and it’s a film he’s wanted to make for years. He also wore one Nosferatu high school production. During a recent interview with Total Film, Hoult opened up about his next film project and why he decided to be in another vampire movie, saying:
“Rob [Eggers] he has wanted to make Nosferatu since he was eight years old and also acted in it when he was in high school, so it was a passionate project of his for a long time. Honestly, I wasn’t looking to go back into the vampire world again, but his style and tone is the complete opposite of (Renfield), and I’m such a fan of his work that I’m thrilled to be a part of his world and watching him and learning from him. I think the movie could be really special, so I’m excited for people to see it.”
Hoult is part of an impressive ensemble cast that includes Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Willem Dafoewith Ralph InesonAND Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlock, the film version of Dracula. The project is currently filming and will be distributed by Focus Features.
Speaking about his high school production, Eggers shared, “Then when I was 17, I directed the senior comedy [of] Nosferatu. He was very expressionist, he was much more expressionist than the film. Era Doctor Caligari’s Cabinet style [German Expressionistic].”
She went on to talk about what she was going to do with film when she was 17, and what she’s trying to do with film recently, saying, “That’s when I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Nosferatu it has a very close and magical connection to me. However, if I were to make the film of which 17-year-old Rob would Nosferatu it would have been something between like The Nightmare Before Christmas AND City of sinwhile this will be the same approach as The Witchwhere the Baltic German Biedermeier of the 1830s has to be articulated in a way that feels real.
Eggers is an incredibly talented director. I love his storytelling style and the attention to detail he puts into the films he makes. I have no doubt that his Nosferatu movie will be great.
