The trailer opens with the question of when has the music industry seen “the last really fucking mean, mean pop girl,” followed by Britney Spears’ song “Gimme More.”

Co-created by Euphoria Creator Sam LevissonTesfaye, E Reza Fahim, The idol is set against the backdrop of the Los Angeles music industry. It follows Rose Depp’s Jocelyn, a fame-hungry young woman trying to take over the entertainment industry. On her journey, she meets Tedros, “a powerful sex-obsessed cult leader,” played by The Weekend. Jocelyn’s career then takes off.

The cast also includes Susanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levi, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Rot, Rachel Sennot, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, RamseyAND Hank Azaria.

According to a report in Rolling Stone, production on this series had “gone wildly, sickeningly off the rails.” Sources say that after a change of directors with Levinson taking over for Amy Seimetz there was a “creepy” twist, creating a crazy work environment. But the claims have been refuted by cast members.
