Wednesday February 25, 2015 was a long-awaited date for Power Rangers fans, as the first of a short film produced by Adi Shankar and directed by Joseph Kahn, responsible for video clips such as “Womanizer” by Britney Spears and “All the Lovers” by Kylie Minogue. This short film told the story of the famous superheroes set in an imaginary dystopian future, with a darker and more serious aesthetic than that told by the original mythical television series. Subsequently, the short film would be censored.

The creators of the short film tried to give it a much darker and more realistic aesthetic for the Power Rangers, as is the case in television series such as “Arrow” and “Gotham”. Joseph Kahn and Adi Shankar tried to pay homage to the mythical fiction with a short film of impressive technical workmanship, and the result was a spectacular and violent short that surprised the fans and, of course, that they loved as much as the original version.

However, the new Power Rangers image was not well received by its creators, who took legal action to get rid of the video that was already flooding the net. A few hours after the short film was uploaded for free to the Vimeo video platform, it disappeared, leading to the assumption that the American company Saban Entertainment, then current owner of the brand and the rights to exploit the fiction, was not happy with. the tribute

The director of the short, Joseph Kahn, accused the American company of trying to censor the short.”Power Rangers”and“ harassing him. .

Saban is trying to censor the Power/Rangers short,” he wrote on Twitter.

Following the short’s removal from Vimeo, many Power Rangers fans requested its return to the platform and the request was honored. The short film was uploaded to YouTube, where it remained available for a while until it was removed due to rights issues. However, billionaire Haim Saban, who holds the rights to the Power Rangers franchise, struck a deal with the producer of the short, Adi Shankar, and the video was once again made available on YouTube and Vimeo.

Finally the short film Power/Rangers has been made available again on YouTube. Photo courtesy.
