Bob Odenkirk hits out at Marvel movie: ‘I don’t think I’m built for this world’

Marvel movies have attracted a lot of Hollywood talent, but don’t expect Bob Odenkirk to show up in the MCU anytime soon. The You better call Saul The actor recently opened up about the type of characters he enjoys playing and how it doesn’t align with what Marvel Studios produces.

“I always like to keep things grounded, recognizable and smaller. I don’t think I was made for this world,” he said The Independent in a recent interview. “I’m built for characters that make you feel like this guy might be living next door.”

Some will claim that his action film 2021 Nobody is a character that doesn’t fall into the category he describes, but Odenkirk takes a different approach to Hutch.

“[Hutch] is still a family man, but his relationship to violence is different. He has changed, but he still has a long way to go to find real balance in his life,” he said of the character, who he will play in an upcoming sequel.

Odenkirk added: “I care more than you can imagine. You would think this was the personal story of my life, not an action movie.”

In 2022 and during the Venice Film Festival, Odenkirk said he is inclined to do more action films after starring Nobody.

“I was very surprised by that Nobody. I started this project because I felt like the character I was becoming You better call Saul was the kind of character you see in an action movie,” he said. “He has real desires and was willing to sacrifice himself… I still train several times a week and when I get my way you will see I put more action into it. I really liked the action sequences and it was very close to sketch comedy… I love the early Jackie Chan movies that had humor in them. I wish that for the future.”
