First time I looked Star Wars: A New Hope it was on a small 12 inch black and white TV my parents owned. It’s crazy to think about it! Now, the first Star Wars movie I saw was Return of the Jedi, and this was on a big screen in a drive-in movie theater. It was so sad to go from that to the little black and white TV, but that’s just what I had!

Mark Hamill and his Return of the Jedi helix lightsaber reunite in Pop Culture Quest Clip
Star Wars: A New Hope made its big television premiere in 1984 and was a major event hosted by Mark Hammill. He came out in a tuxedo and everything! The special included a short video showcasing the fans and the frenzy the film had started. Hamill says in the video:
“You are about to become part of the Star Wars phenomena. In a few minutes you will see a movie that has become more than just a movie. He’s been a part of my life for seven years now, and the saga he brought to life has touched the lives of millions of other people.”
He added: “When it came out, the world went instantly Star Wars crazy.” He also calls it “one of the most extraordinary moments in the history of cinema … The beginning of the Star Wars saga.”
The video shines a spotlight on action figures and merchandise, and even interviewed a family who “lived, breathed and ate” Star Wars. They showed off their insane collection, which was worth over $15,000 at the time. There is also some behind the scenes footage that has been shown.
There is a lot that went into the pre-show special and if you are a fan of the franchise there is no doubt you will enjoy it and have a good laugh.
This video is definitely a blast from the past! Enjoy!
