in the trailer of city of asteroids, Jason Schwartzman’s character is stuck in the city with his four children. He calls his father-in-law, played by Tom Hanks, and asks him to pick them up. Jason’s character joins Asteroid City with a beautiful woman played by Scarlett Johansson. His son, played by Jake Ryan, gets involved in the city’s Junior Stargazer convention. Asteroid City ends up in quarantine after a UFO arrives.
“I don’t like the way that guy, the alien, looked at us,” Jason’s character tells Scarlett’s character through a window. “As if we were doomed.” He also reveals that he is a widower, setting the stage for a possible new romance. But that might not fit the character of Tom Hanks. “In my solitude, I’ve learned to give complete and indisputable math to the people I love,” he says. “I don’t know if that includes you, but it included my daughter and her four children.”
